FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 5
Week 5 Recap - On Tues we held a long pose for drawing the torso. Students were asked to focus on the 6 parts of light and to add the maximum amount of value in the drawing. On Thurs we continued our Anatomy Lectures with the Upper Leg. Break encouraged students to attend the international reception in the Library Lobby for DGV credit. After the break students were asked to make short gesture drawings of the legs. Tues will be Anatomy Lecture 3 the Lower Leg and students should bring in their homework of copying some structural anatomy studies.
FA 209 Painting 1
Week 5 Recap - This week we held critique of projects 1-5 on Tues as well as watched a Shawn Barber video. Thurs we began the color box painting which will run through class on Sept 30. 3 different compositional Sketches of the still life will be due also on that date. A brief demonstration on glazing and velatura was given on Thurs as well. Students should in the next 3 weeks glaze and velatura a passage in their wet in wet and wipe out paintings.

FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 4
Week 4 Recap - This week we looked at landmarks and proportion on Tues and began our anatomy lectures on Thurs with the Torso. Please remember to bring your sketchbooks each class, as we will make sketches in fig space or anatomy each class. This image is the torso lecture notes containing 12 muscles to know.
FA 209 Painting 1 Week 4
Week 4 Recap - This week students used both sessions to paint a still life with a limited earth palette. The colors used were black, white, alizarin crimson and raw sienna. All the colors can be used to set up a value based primary secondary palette system of colors commonly used by the old masters.

FA 211 Printmaking Relief Week 4
Week 4 Recap - Monday was another open lab for making prints for project 1. This also included a demonstration on mounting prints for critique. Wed students were encouraged to begin work on project 2 Flora/Fauna color reduction print. At the end of class on Wed we held critique #1 for Viva Revolucion/Dia de los Muertos

Week 3 Recap - This week we studied a Monochromatic painting style attempting to tonally infuse one of the two paintings with a warm or cool tint. The starting approach was left open to students (drawing, wipe out, or wet in wet). Next week we will begin a Limited Earth palette painting (black, white, alizarin crimson and raw sienna).

FA 209 Painting 1 Week 2
Week 2 Recap - Tuesday we began the Transparent Imprimatura painting please see the video for the process steps. Thursday we started the Wet in Wet technique painting, our focus was on blending. Homework was also given for the weekend. Students should draw three small 2"x2" compositional sketches of three simple still life objects. Box, Sphere and a Cylinder. These three objects should be rearranged into aesthetically pleasing compositions in each sketch. This homework will be due next week.
FA 106 Color Theory Week 2
Week 2 Recap - Both Tues and Thurs we continued navigating color space by matching paint swatches with mixed acrylic paint. Tuesday brought the introduction of both the glaze and velatura technique. Students should plan to have the project ready and assembled for presentation at the end of class on Thurs Sept 9th.
FA 211 Printmaking Relief Week 2
Week 2 Recap - Monday we had most of the class to begin carving out the designs based on our theme. Near the end of class students prepared the practice prints for critique based on the Signature criteria given at the beginning of class. A grading rubric was also presented and a due date for critique of project 1 was set for Wednesday Sept 15th. Wednesday was also a day to continue carving out designs. Some printing began, and everyone should plan to begin printing by the end of class on Wed the 8th. Remember no class on Monday the 6th Happy Labor Day!
