FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 4

On Tuesday students began by using vine charcoal to focus on creating the 6 distinct tones of Light. (1 - Highlight HL, 2 - Light L, 3 - Half Tone 1/2T, 4 - Reflected Light RL, 5 - Core Shadow CS, 6 - Cast Shadow CA). On Thursday students focused on the balance aspect of creating a drawing. Using vertical balance lines from either the Pit of the neck (front view), Ear (side view) or the C7 vertebrae (back view). Students worked to fit the whole figure on the page while also making sure the balance with the feet was correctly placed. Next week we will study figure space.

FA 101 General Drawing Week 11

Tuesday students attended the Richard Russo lecture and were given the assignment of creating a drawing based on what they heard. The homework demonstration comes from the story of the author running into an old girlfriend and she saying that she had no idea he was so "full of books". Thursday students were asked to practice the subtractive charcoal drawing method, wherein they lay down a ground of charcoal before wiping out the light areas with an eraser. Then using both charcoal and eraser continue to refine the drawing by adding or subtracting value. 

FA 101 General Drawing Week 10

Tuesday students made a line quality drawing with no shading next to a tonal drawing with little to no line. Both drawings were of the same object and focused on making the best drawing possible. Thursday students made a spooky charcoal still life drawing. REMINDER--- the Richard Russo lecture will be Tuesday and we will meet at class AB 112 @ 630pm for the assignment before going to the lecture at 7. This is a big assignment and is Mandatory, plus a DGV do bring your student ID.

FA 103 Figure Drawing 1 Week 5

Tuesday and Thursday students began working with charcoal as a means if creating deep rich tonal values in their drawings. Loose block-ins and wipe out techniques were explored before implementing a linear approach to regain structure to the figure gestures. Next week students will begin focus on the torso and contraposto poses.

FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 week 6-7

Finals have begun and long poses have been chosen based on historical works and themes in art. Week 6 theme was Echo and Narcissus. Week seven began Adam and Eve expelled from the garden of Eden. Students will review their work with instructors this final week to evaluate progress and strengths.

GD 101 Foundation Drawing Week 14

Week 14 recap- this week students focused solely on the charcoal final drawing. Remembering to consider on order 1. Proportion 2. Structure and 3. Tone. This final drawing should represent the best work students make this semester.

GD 101 Foundation Drawing Week 13

Week 13 recap- on Monday student began a new drawing using only white chalk/charcoal on brown craft paper to make a rendered object. Wednesday students had time to finish the brown paper drawing before starting the charcoal final. Students will have four class periods to make a well crafted picture representing the complex objects of the class still lifes.

GD 101 Foundation Drawing Week 11

Week 11 recap- this week students began a charcoal assignment in which they were asked to render two objects of different materials (glass & plaster, metal & wood). These drawings should show different material textures through the use of value, shape and line quality.
Priorities for drawing assignments:
1. Proportion and Placement
2. Structure and Simplification
3. Tone and Texture

GD 101 Foundation Draw Week 10

Week 10 Recap - Monday students finished work on the value key drawing project. Wednesday students began working with charcoal making a drawing that highlights the difference between line quality and tone.
