On Tuesday student reviewed the syllabus and began painting by making digital mixes. Thursday after the geodesic dome brush control exercise students were introduced to the Grisaille observation project. Next week we explore brushes and continue work on the Grisaille painting.

FA 209 Painting 1 Week 5
Students began work on the first side of the warm cool palette project. Using only black red oxide and white students will create two still lifes on one panel. One will have more black paint and be cooler, while the other will have more overall red oxide and be warmer. Next week students will continue to the second side of the piece.

FA 101 General Drawing Week 15
This week students were introduced to an acrylic wash drawing method as a means of infusing color into the drawing process. Students were asked to focus on drawing a single object in dramatic lighting by layering acrylic washes and adding color pencil to deepen shadows. Students also brought in 5 drawings for a one on one portfolio review of the semester.

FA 101 General Drawing Week 12
This week students focused on making white chalk drawings on toned paper for Tuesday's class, while making a large full page still life drawing on tone paper for Thursday. Students will submit a best drawing at the end of class next Thursday to be considered for inclusion of the drawing show.

FA 101 General Drawing Week 10
Tuesday students made a line quality drawing with no shading next to a tonal drawing with little to no line. Both drawings were of the same object and focused on making the best drawing possible. Thursday students made a spooky charcoal still life drawing. REMINDER--- the Richard Russo lecture will be Tuesday and we will meet at class AB 112 @ 630pm for the assignment before going to the lecture at 7. This is a big assignment and is Mandatory, plus a DGV do bring your student ID.

FA 101 General Drawing Week 7
Tuesday students worked in groups to create "good" still life set ups which then became compositional drawings in portrait, landscape, and square formats. Grading on 2pp was mostly returned.

FA 106 Color Theory Week 12
Tues and Thursday students began work on the final project focusing on parts A (observational still life) and B (artist analysis). Students should begin work on part C ( interpretation) within the next week.

FA 209 Painting 1 week 7
Week 7 recap - this week students worked on the limited earth palette painting. Using only the four paints (blk, wht, al crim, raw snna) students will create a still life painting that shows a range of value and color.

FA 209 Painting 1 Week 5
Week 5 recap - on Tuesday students began the warm/cool painting project. Student will paint two small still lifes on one panel. The choices for color palettes are: a. Ivory black, titanium white and transparent red oxide or b. any one bright color with black and white to change the values. Student should budget about 1.5 class periods for each.

FA 106 Color Theory Week 13
Week 13 recap- this week students finished their critter/robot finals and beginning the final project. For the final project students will A. Observe - paint a still life, B. Analyze - artist palette analysis, C. Interpret - combine elements of part A still life with the key color palette of part B. With two weeks students should complete parts A and B next week.
