FA 106 Color Theory AM Week 1-2

Our first class meeting was a review of the course syllabus and discussion of materials. Tuesday students made a color space exploration wheel and Thursday we began designing our color triads.

FA 106 Color Theory PM Week 1-2

On our first night of class we reviewed the course syllabus and materials. Week 2 began with a Color Space painting exercise followed by designing a Color Triad exercise. Next week we will start painting our Triad+

Tuesday the color matching project was introduced. Thursday students turned in their color Triads for grading and began color matching.

This week students had lab time to finish up the color triad while transitioning to begin color matching. Remembering the key aspects of color Hue, Value, Intensity, Temperature to help match the color cards.

Monday and Tuesday students made color space exploration scales. Harmony, compliments, tints and shades all followed after warm and cool studies of the hue families. Wednesday and Thursday students began designing and painting the color triad, quad, pent or hex. We will work one more class period on the triads before switching to color matching.

FA 106 Color Theory PM Week 4

Student finished the color space project as grading began and the color field theory project was introduced.

This week students finished making the color match presentations for the color space project. The color field theory project was introduced and part 1 design concepts were demonstrated.

Tuesday students worked on making color matches from paint swatches focusing on matching the correct hue, value, intensity and temperature. This is the final exercise of the color space project.

This week students worked on making color matches from paint swatches focusing on matching the correct hue, value, intensity and temperature. This is the final exercise of the color space project. Grades were handed back for the warm cool color hues and the complimentary and harmony scales.

FA 106 Color Theory PM Week 2

Tuesday student finished triad project designs and began painting the tones on their designs. Thursday students had a bit of work time before going to the movie Fury. Next week will have more lab time and an introduction to color field theory.

Tues - no class. Thursday students finished their design layout for the triad+ tone study and began executing their piece. We will have another work day on Tuesday. Color matching will be the next phase of our color space explorations.

Same as the am class we discussed the syllabus on Tuesday and began painting the warm cool hue families on Thursday adding in the compliments harmonies tints and shades

This week class began and students read through the course syllabus before collecting required materials on Tuesday. Thursday students explored color space by moving through the hue families, harmony and compliment colors and finally a tint and shade. Tuesday next week students will begin the color triad, tetrad...

After reviewing the syllabus on day 1, students began Tuesday by painting warm and cool hue families followed by color space exploration of harmony and compliment. Thursday students worked on creating and designing a color triad. Next week will focus on color matching.

Tues and Thurs students began matching color swatches using the experience they gained in exploring color space last week. Students should have ten matches by the end of class Tuesday February 4th.

Week 1 Recap -
Wednesday - FA 202 Intermediate Drawing we reviewed the course syllabus and discussed both the required materials and the schedule for course projects.  Students can expect to begin work on the Object Analysis project after a brief discussion of the project handout.  Students should plan to bring their sketchbook to class as the Sketchbook project will also be introduced on Wed Sept 4. DO NOT forget to bring your Object/Theme for our first project.  Finally remember to bring the course textbook Sketchbook for the Artist by Sarah Simblet
Thursday - FA 106 Color Theory students reviewed the course syllabus and discussed required materials and course schedules/policies.  Students should come to class on Tues with: paints, brushes, palette, bristol paper to begin work on a color space exploration exercise. 
FA 209 Painting 1 students should bring the following to class on Tues Sept 3: Titanium White 150ml, Ivory Black 37ml, brushes, palette, canvas panel 11"x14" and mediums (turps and neomeg or galykd). Students should also bring both textbooks to class The Complete Oil Painter by Brian Gorst and Oils in 10 Steps by Ian Sidaway. 
FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Students should come to class with sketchbook, drawing paper pad, and a drawing implement. Textbook is Figure Drawing: Design and Invention by Michael Hampton.

FA 106 Color Theory Week 1-2

Week 1-2 Recap - students have started by reviewing the course syllabus then making some color property scales. Specifically we examined: tints and shades, compliments, harmonies, color triad tones, warm and cool colors. Finally students began making color swatch matches.  Students will be asked to match 12 colors while including each of the color hue families (r, o, y, g, b, v)

Week 2 Recap - This week students worked on the three exercises of the first project.
10 color matches, Color Space, Color Triad and Warm/Cool Tint.  Students should hopefully being feeling more confident about working with acrylic paint and its color properties.  The first project will be due on Thursday Sept 6 for critique.
