FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 3

This week we focused on foreshortened poses and making a figure sit flatly in the picture. Tuesday we continued with more warm ups and practice poses, while Thursday students made a shaded drawing of a foreshortened figure to submit for grading.

This week students ended with the final drawing #2 based on the Three Graces.

On Thursday at the end of the pose we held critique before submitting a final drawing for grading.

Tues students continued making figure in space drawings. After two poses in the classroom student drew outside to complete the environmental picture. Thurs students made fig space drawings using a light source as we move towards our mid term drawing.

Tuesday student made their long pose torso midterm drawing. Thursday students were introduced to the proportions and tips for drawing the head and portrait. Homework for the torso was due on Thursday. Next week students have a text homework for the head.

Week 14 Recap- This week students created their final Faces drawing for this semester. Our final theme was veteran recognition. Steve Mazza our regular model served in the Army corps in the late 60's.

Week 9 Recap - This week we began the anatomy section of the course by refreshing the structure of the torso.  Students are asked each week to bring their sketchbooks for note taking about the muscle groups and drawing strategies.  On Thursday student made a long pose drawing of the torso.  Next weeks focus will be the legs.

Week 7 Recap - This week students began their mid-term Figure in Space drawing.  Students are asked to do the following: place at least 7 figures, create at least 2 overlaps, full value representation and create a background for the figures.

Week 6 Recap - On Monday students continued preparing final drawings for Mid-term critique Oct 10th.  During this time a demonstration video by Bob Kato was shown on Adult Male Portrait in color Gouache. Wednesday students began the Faces of the Mohawk Valley (Artist Portion) by drawing and interviewing fellow student Samantha Smith.  The next Face drawing day will be in mid October.

Week 5 Recap - This week students made a long pose figure drawing focused on showing the 6 parts of light (High Light {HL}, Light {L}, Half Tone {1/2T}, Reflected Light {RL}, Core Shadow {CS}, Cast Shadow {CA})  This lighting concept was then applied to homework, of 2 drawings (simple object and invented object)

Foreshortening Figure Drawing Exercise

Week 2 Recap - students this week strove to capture a figure drawing in foreshortened perspective.  Beginning with gestures and ending with long poses students were asked to use demonstrated techniques like: envelope shape drawing, peaks and valley mapping, and vertical/horizontal guide lines to create a realistic figure.
