Week 14 Recap - This Mon students created a dual pose drawing using a scaling strategy. Student will make a second drawing in this style next week.

Week 7 Recap - Students were asked to show progress towards Mid-term assignments of drawing and sketchbook work.  Next week critique will be Wednesday.  Demonstration included the start of the Growth Drawing assignment.

FA 209 Painting 1 Week 6

Week 6 Recap - This week students worked on project 5 Limited Earth Palette.  Students using only the 4 colors (IB, RS, AC, TW) created a still life painting of simple subjects.  Next week students will begin project 6 Color Box.

FA 202 Intermediate Drawing Week 6

Samantha Smith - Faces of MV Fall 12
Week 6 Recap - On Monday students continued preparing final drawings for Mid-term critique Oct 10th.  During this time a demonstration video by Bob Kato was shown on Adult Male Portrait in color Gouache. Wednesday students began the Faces of the Mohawk Valley (Artist Portion) by drawing and interviewing fellow student Samantha Smith.  The next Face drawing day will be in mid October.

FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 5

Week 5 Recap - This week students made a long pose figure drawing focused on showing the 6 parts of light (High Light {HL}, Light {L}, Half Tone {1/2T}, Reflected Light {RL}, Core Shadow {CS}, Cast Shadow {CA})  This lighting concept was then applied to homework, of 2 drawings (simple object and invented object)

FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 4

Week 4 Recap - This week students learned about the principles of creating a Figure in Space composition while acquiring more practice and mastery in technique.  By drawing a reference figure at the beginning of a drawing students can use principles of vanishing perspective to create a mulch-figural composition.

FA 209 Painting 1 Week 4

Week 4 Recap - This week students worked on painting two small still life set ups, one warm version one cool version of the same color.  The starting approach for this fourth project of the semester is drawing on canvas before applying paint. See the demo video here.

FA 106 Color Theory Week 4

Double Face/Ink Blot Color Field Theory Project
Week 4 Recap - This week students began work on the Double Face/Ink Blot Project.  Students will create sketch designs of 4 blots and 4 faces, then select two of each to be placed in small fields of color to examine the properties of color interaction.  Before painting the final face/blots students will also test color combinations to discover the correct relationships for examples A-D.

Week 9 Recap - This week students continued working on their East vs West, Cyr Mixed Media and Photo Reference projects.  On Thursday students were also asked to submit a paragraph about the subject, palette, approach and technique they plan to use for the final project.

Week 9 Recap - This week student began painting the pixel portrait, looking to place various colors in precise value locations to create a portrait.  Next week we will critique this project.
