Figure Drawing 2 Week 16


Week 16 Recap- Students had studio time to work on the Final project drawings. Critique was held on Thurs Dec 10th.

Painting 1 Week 16

Week 16 Recap- Final Critique was held Dec 10th. The Final paintings were examined by the class and the artist. Paintings showcased an amazing growth in technique and practice. Nice work kids!

Figure Drawing 1 Week 16

Week 16 Recap- Tuesday students had a free draw session focusing on Proportion, Structure and Tone. Thursday was the final test.

Printmaking: Relief Week 16

Week 16 Recap- Monday students helped coat screens with photo emulsion and Wednesday we set the images. Wednesday was also the final critique of projects.

2D Design Week 16

Week 16 Recap- Monday was the last full lab to work on the final project. Wednesday was our final critique students were asked to write a comment on each project, fill out a critical process worksheet for a fellow students project and then a group critique of all projects. Finally students were given time at the end of class to work on and finish up the digital portfolio of the semesters projects.

Figure Drawing 2 Week 15

Week 15 Recap - On Tues Dec 1st the Anatomy lab large drawing homework was due. In class we transitioned from Final #2 Union of Water and Earth to Final #3 Artist in his studio by Gustave Courbet 1858. Final critique will be last class Thurs Dec 10.

Painting 1 Week 15

Week 15 Recap- Both Tuesday and Thursdays lab times were dedicated to working on the final projects. Students should consider leaving any submissions for the Annual Student Show with the instructor on the last class.

Figure Drawing 1 Week 15

Week 15 Recap- Tuesday students drew a long pose of one model switching between two poses. Trying to get a group pose from only one model. Thursday we took another practice final test. Study them bones and muscles.

Printmaking: Relief Week 15

Week 15 Recap- Monday and Wednesday students used lab time to work on prints for the Alphabet Mythology Intaglio series. The final project Author screen print series drawings were due on Wednesday.

2D Design Week 15

Week 15 Recap - Monday we had a lab dedicated to working on the Final project. Wednesday we had computer lab time to begin building a digital portfolio of the semesters projects. Final Crit Dec 9th.

Figure Drawing 2 Week 14

Week 14 Recap - We began Final Drawing #2, this drawing will be based on Peter Paul Rubens THE UNION OF EARTH AND WATER 1618. This pose will last through the next week Dec 1 and 3rd. The final week of class will have the pose chosen by the models.

Painting 1 Week 14

Week 14 Recap - Again lab time was used for working on both final and portrait/cast project. A live model was in class Tuesday for student work.

Figure Drawing 1 Week 14

Week 14 Recap - On Tuesdays class we took a practice final test. Anatomy of the torso, skeletal bones, mid-line vs. center-line of the figure, the six parts of light and fitting a figure into a given space. This is an example of fit figure and six parts of light. We will take the final test in class on Dec 10th.

Week 14 Recap - Students continued working on both the Final Author print and the Alphabet Mythology etching. Happy Thanksgiving.

2D Design Week 14

Week 14 Recap - Monday's lab was dedicated to working on the final project, with final critique Dec 9th. Happy Thanksgiving.

Figure Drawing 2 Week 13

Week 13 Recap - We began the Final Drawing series for the semester. Using the Adam and Eve them from Titian students made a two day pose to make their drawing. Each week will have a new painting or sculpture for the theme of the final poses.

Painting 1 Week 13

Week 13 Recap - Students continued to work on both the portrait and the final projects in class. These will both be due for critique on the last day of class Dec 10th.

Figure Drawing 1 Week 13

Week 13 Recap- Tuesday we made a figure study of one single pose, focusing on creating a picture or context for the figure. Thursday we played with memory and mixed up looking versus memory for drawing models and the poses they took.

Printmaking Relief Week 13

Week 13 Recap - This week we continued to work on the Intaglio Alphabet of Mythology. The final semester project was also introduced. Using the serigraph process students will make a drawing or characterization of a literary author. Critique for both will be on the final class Dec 9th.

2D Design Week 13

Week 13 Recap - Monday was the final class lab for the Good/Bad project. Wednesday we held critique for the Good/Bad project. Students created pieces based on a small list of criteria voted on by the class. The Good list being things that students would want to see in a painting, and the Bad list being things that students would not want to see in a painting. The objective was to see if it is the criteria or compositional choice truly make a good or bad picture. We also made our initial lab work in the Mac lab. Students will be required to create a portfolio of the entire semesters work in a digital format. This work will continue in class Dec 2nd in class. Students where also introduced to the final project in Monday's class. Students will create a piece of their choosing based on the use of the Elements and Principals of Composition. Due for critique on the last day of class Dec 9th.

Figure Drawing 2 Week 12

Week 12 Recap - This week we focused on a loose drawing approach, trying to keep the loose gestural line and vitality in a sustained drawing. Both classes we started out with a practice drawing and lead into a longer poses.

Painting 1 Week 12

Week 12 Recap - We held the Palette Project Critique on Thursday. Introductions and Demonstrations for the Final and Portrait projects. Time in studio should be utilized to progress both paintings due for critique on the last day of class Dec 10.

Figure Drawing 1 Week 12

Week 12 Recap - This week we focused on the torso from a live model and the skeletal structure. Practice test and information on the final test was given.

Printmaking Relief Week 12

Week 12 Recap - This week we held the critique for the Green Print project #3. Each student was to make a multi-block print on five different post consumer substrates (recycled). Anything that was used and would accept ink was a viable solution for a print surface.

2D Design Week 12

Week 12 Recap - This week we critiqued the Abstract Narrative project and started the Good/Bad item project. Students were asked to combine and vote on a list of five good things and five bad in a piece. Each group would then create a project including all five items. With critique on Thursday the 18th.

Week 11 Recap - this week we made our second anatomy lab visit and drew in the Geo lab with spot lamps to amplify the light and shadow contrast.

Week 11 Recap - This week we focused on drawing the torso and learning the anatomy from the neck down to the upper leg. Drawings from casts and models helped inform instruction.

2D Design Week 11

Week 11 Recap - This week students began making the key to each group's Abstract Narrative. Each scene in the narrative should show the main characters.

Figure Drawing 2 Week 10

Week 10 Recap - Tuesday we had the first of two Anatomy Lab visits. Students were able to draw from live life specimens @ the MVCC campus. Thursday we began long pose portrait drawing. The next anatomy visit will be thursday nov 5th. Students were also given the assignment of taking a system of the body and making a large drawing for a future show of the human body.

Painting 1 Week 10

Week 10 Recap - Tues and Thurs we continued working on the Palette project and grade sheets were given back with the previous painting projects.

Week 10 Recap - Tuesday and Thursday we made charcoal portraits from live models. Emphasis was placed on proper proportion. A video of portrait proportions by Daniel Greene was shown at the beginning of Tuesdays class.

Printmaking: Relief Week 10


Week 10 recap - Monday and Wednesday we worked on the Green print project with critique coming up two weeks from Wednesday. Also on Wednesday we attended the Sculpture space lecture for Miriam Ellen Ewers a former print maker turned sculptor.

2D Design Week 10

Week 10 Recap - Monday we submitted our final sketches with color notes. The Abstract Narrative project was also introduced and students formed groups to choose a literary theme and make a shape key. Wednesday we mounted our final symbol designs and held critique for the project. The shape key was due to be turned in.

Week 9 Recap - Tuesday we made long pose drawings of the hands and feet on toned paper. Thursday we lectured on the features of the face: eyes, nose, ears and mouth.

Week 9 Recap - This week we again continued with the Palette project studio lab time. Again Critique will be held on Nov 11th

Week 9 Recap - This week we finished working on our Portrait stations. Students were asked to look for proportion, structure and tone in that order to make well crafted drawings. PST. Demonstration examples included life portrait, cast drawing of Venus di Milo and a skull drawing.

Printmaking: Relief Week 9

Week 9 Recap - This week we continued to work during lab time on the Green project. Students should have substrate and design close to finished plan. A template should be used to print each stage no matter the substrate type. Project 4 Intaglio stages Mythology Alphabet project was introduced. Each student will chose a different letter. Critique for project 3 will occur on Nov. 11th

2D Design Week 9


Week 9 Recap - Monday we worked on the thumbnail (10) stage of the element (fire, water, earth, air) symbol. Wednesday lab time focused on the rough sketch (3) phase of the symbol design. The next week we will turn in the final sketch on Monday and have Critique for the final piece on Wednesday. Presentation will be a large part of the grading process.

Week 8 Recap - Thursday we discussed the anatomy of the hands and feet.

Painting 1 Week 8

Week 8 Recap - Thursday we held critique for the first projects Warm/Cool and Inprimatura. Lab time for Palette project.

Week 8 Recap - With only Thursday class, we began the Portrait Station Project. Students will draw from three stations, Live Model, Classical Cast and the Planar Head/Skull. These drawings will be graded at the end of next week.
