Fa 209 Painting 1 Homework 2

4 compositions (circular, landscape, portrait, irregular) plus 3 questions from reading



FA 101 General Drawing Week 5

Tues students were introduced to the projection drawing method and were paired up to make a block number drawing in 2pp. Thurs students concluded the perspective section making two more projection drawings. 

FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 5

Tues students continued making figure in space drawings. After two poses in the classroom student drew outside to complete the environmental picture. Thurs students made fig space drawings using a light source as we move towards our mid term drawing.

FA 209 Painting 1 Week 5

Tues and Thurs students began work on the warm/cool painting project using Ivory Black, Transparent Red Oxide and Titanium White to create a two panel still life showing warm and cool tints 

FA 106 Color Theory Week 5

Tues and Thurs students continued working on the Color Field Theory faces and blots. Demonstrations were given for examples d (high-low + opposite), c (color vibration) and finally b (2>1). Thurs at the end of class students sat together to evaluate the success of projects and have an opportunity make final corrections before grading on Tuesday.

FA 101 General drawing Week 4

Tuesday students began 2pp grid and object placement. Thurs students practiced drawing object proportions and structure. Homework 1 was due.

FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 4

Tuesday students worked on two long Foreshortened poses for a grade. Thursday students were introduced to the Figure in Space concept and practice. This will continue next week.


FA 209 Painting 1 Week 4

This week students continued working on both the wipe-out and wet in wet pieces. Warm/Cool split panel painting is next.

Fa 106 Color Theory Week 4

On Tuesday students began designing the double faces and paint blots for our color field theory project. Students should create four of each minimum before selecting the best or favorite two from each group to use as designs. Thursday students began making color tests for examples A-D, to explore which color relationships work best for each example. Some students also began painting their final designs for the examples. The best order of execution is (A, D, C, B)

FA 101 General Drawing Week 3

Tuesday - class cancelled. Thursday students began drawing linear objects by observation. Focusing specifically on making the correct height to width ratios for each object. Until finished with the perspective lessons each week students will work on tues perspective and thurs linear drawing. Homework#1 was also handed out students will do the following in their sketchbook by next Thursday 1- draw 15 cubes tumbling across the page at different angles. 2 - draw 15 small frames and make abstract marks to fill the compositions inside each of the 15. 3  - students will draw something from observation of their own choosing.

Fa 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 3

Tues-class cancelled. Thursday students began the foreshortened figure gesture to prepare for the graded drawing next Tuesday. Shorter poses lead to longer more detailed and lit drawings. Homework #1 was assigned for next week - students will draw 3cubes, 3cyliders, 3spheres and one invented organic shape. Each form should show cross-contour lines to emphasize the volume of the forms

FA 209 Painting 1

Tuesday students continued working on finishing the Grisaille painting before attending the Richard Deon workshop/lecture. Thursday students began the burnt umber wipeout painting exercise. Next week students will begin the wet in wet painting technique. Homework #1 will also be due.

FA 106 Color Theory Week 3

On Tuesday students began working on the color match exercise using their paint to mix matching hue, value, intensity and temperature. Thursday students continued matching colors while adding the glazing and velatura techniques to correct painted swatches. Color triads should be completed with 10 color swatch matches by the end of class on Tuesday sept 16th.

FA 209 Painting 1 week 1-2

Day 1 syllabus, day 2 Grisaille demo and oil painting basics, day 3 student lab time Grisaille project. 

FA 106 Color Theory Week 1-2

After reviewing the syllabus on day 1, students began Tuesday by painting warm and cool hue families followed by color space exploration of harmony and compliment. Thursday students worked on creating and designing a color triad. Next week will focus on color matching.
