SA 300 Amsterdam Paris Meeting 3

Students were first given their Van Gogh letter to write about for next meeting, then worked as a group to identify important buildings of Paris and London while placing them on the maps. During Q&A we discussed flights, money during the trip, calling home and passports. Students should make sure to finalize emergency contact information ASAP.

FA 218 Painting 2 Week 6

Week 6 Recap- Tues students received the handout for projects 3 (literary reference) and 4 (reimagined masterworks). Thurs students should be finishing up their midterm projects 1 and 2. Book and online video projects should be posted in the comment section of this blog. Demonstration included continuation of the Caravaggio technique.

FA 106 Color Theory Week 6

Week 6 Recap- Tues we printed, gridded and transferred the pixel images for our value project. Thursday students began painting their projects, specifically focusing on using all colors in different values to abstract the original picture. Demo included finishing the baby portraits and will start a large piece next week.

GD 101 Foundation Drawing Week 6

Week 6 Recap- Wed we continued working with structure and proportion line drawings. Next Monday will be our final 2 point proportion drawing day.

FA 218 Painting 2

Week 5 Recap - Tues and Thurs students continued finishing up object painting 3 and the portrait exchange. Students also received project video/book handout. Demonstration included both a warm/cool palette portrait and Caravaggio stage 1

FA 106 Color Theory Week 5

Week 5 Recap- Tues we finished working on the Simultaneous contrast ink blot project. Thurs we critiqued project 1 color match and turned in project 2. Demonstration on beginning project 3 pixel portrait.

GD 101 Foundation Drawing Week 5

Week 5 Recap - Monday was again a perspective day, focusing on creating a mechanical drawing of house with a porch. Wednesday we broke down complex shapes into simple geometric forms then redrew the objects with proportion and structure in mind. Homework #2 a. 10 cubes cut into with secondary and tertiary planes(5each) b. 15 rounded rectangle thumbnail abstract compositions c. Draw "order"

FA 105 2D Design Week 5

Week 5 Recap- Monday we finished working on our final graphic compositions focusing on emphasis through value and color. Wednesday we spent time in the computer lab printing and editing images for the noun form project. We ended class by critiquing project 1.

FA 218 Painting 2

Week 4 recap- this week students finished up their second painting and started the third. Demonstration included more portraits and a Wet in wet still life demo with burnt umber and white oil paint.

FA 106 Color Theory Week 4

Week 4 Recap- this week student turned in their color match project and started painting the color blots/faces. Next week we will continue to refine the color solutions to this exercise.

GD 101 Foundation Drawing Week 4

Week 4 Recap- this week student were introduced to the projection method on Monday while working with proportion and structure drawing on Wednesday. Next week more of the same on monday and Wednesday . Homework part C included

FA 105 2D Design week 4

Week 4 Recap- this week students finished the rough 4"x4" comps and chose the best 5 for the final designs. Project 2 Noun+Form were students will combine an image of a (person, place, thing) with a character to make a posterized image

SA 300 Amsterdam Paris Meeting 2

This week students started two projects, the Van Gogh image/letter project and the journal blogging project. Students will answer a few questions about a Van Gogh image then receive the connected letter and write about how that may have changed their view of the image. The journal blog students will post something about the trip and respond with a comment twice before the next meeting on February 26.

FA 218 Painting 2 Week 3

Week 3 Recap- this week students should have started their second painting ( wipe out, object #2) the third painting should ideally start next week. Demonstration this week focused on the portrait starting with the Titian style and Caravaggio and warm cool next.

FA 106 Color Theory Week 3

Week 3 recap- this week students worked on making more color matches Tuesday while starting the ink blot color field project on Thursday. The color match presentation should be completed by end of class Tuesday the 12th.

GD 101 Foundation Drawing Week 3

Week 3 Recap- On Monday we began placing boxes inside our 2 point perspective environment. Wednesday students were asked to focus on height to width relationships while making drawing from simple objects. Think of Proportion Structure and Tone in that order will be a focus of our drawing study this semester. Homework consists of three parts A. A 15 cube moving through space drawing B. a 15 small abstract line thumbnail study page and C. A drawing of anything ( student choice) each should take up one page in the sketchbook demonstration images to follow.

FA 105 2D Design Week 3

Week 3 Recap- this week students created their 40 thumbnails using the chosen character and shape. On Wednesday we started the 20 rough compositions drawing from the two best designed thumbs in each category. On Monday we will select the best roughs to make into our final designs.
