FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 15

Week 15 Recap- Our final topic for the Final Drawing was J W Waterhouse's Apollo and Daphne. Students were encouraged to create a drawing based on the classical Greek myth. As Daphne turns into a laurel tree Apollo reaches out to catch her with lustful desire. Happy Holidays!

FA 106 Color Theory Week 15

Week 15 Recap- This final week we held labs for the final project and then critique for our Triptych based on (color vibration, transparency and optical color blending).

FA 211 Printmaking: Relief Week 15

Week 15 -16 Recap - We held two final working labs for both the Etching and Final projects. During week 16 students had access to the open lab on Monday Tuesday with our final Critique of both projects on Wednesday Dec 15th. Students exchanged prints with each other based on the Era theme. FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 14

Week 14 Recap- This week we held our final #2 with the Rafael drawing "Massacre of the Innocents" as a theme. The models chose this pose from a small portfolio of Rafael Sanzio's work. Next week with be Final #3.

FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 13

Week 13 Recap - We began the Final Series of drawings. Final 1 was based on Bernini's St Longinus and ran for three days. The next two weeks will be based on art chosen by the models and students.

Week 13 Recap - This week we held lab time for working on the Critter Tonal project and reviewed the color ribbon project. The final project will be introduced on Tues Nov 30th.

FA 211 Printmaking Week 13

Week 13 Recap - During this week we held labs to work on both the Etching project (Personal Evolution/Dual Self) and the Final (Era) project. Students were required to submit a proof for stage 1 of the etch, with stage 2 due Mon Nov 29th.

Week 8 Midterm Recap - We held Anatomy lecture on the Features of the face. Focusing on the Proportion, Structure and Tone. Next class on Tues will be another lecture covering other tips on the construction of the head.

FA 209 Painting 1 Week 8

Week 8 Midterm Recap - We held another Palette project lab, most students should have finished up painting 1 from this project and moved to painting 2 using the matrix. This image shows step two of glaze palette demonstration. Next week we will continue to work on the palette project which will be due on Nov 4th.

FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 6-7



Week 6-7 Recap - Week Six we concluded our leg anatomy lectures with a long pose drawing of the leg on toned paper. Thursday we started the arm anatomy, which we concluded on Tuesday week 7 with another long pose drawing of the arm. Thursday we held the hand and foot anatomy lecture. Next week we will meet on Thursday only and hold part 1 of 2 for portrait anatomy lectures. Finally on Nov 4th students will submit a full value drawing on 18"x24" toned paper of two hands and two feet. This will be a graded drawing worth 50pts.

Week 6-7 Recap - Week 6 we continued painting the Color box while introducing the Palette Project. Above are the Style, Palette and Subject boxes that students will use to create three paintings. Midterm grades will encompass projects 1-6 and sketching homework. Week 7 we began planning out the Palette project paintings. Demo 1 and 2 were Shellac Glaze then a Vanitas (1) and a Theme (2). On Thurs. Demo 3 was of a Wet in Wet Mud Palette 3 Object Still Life. Please see the handout on wiggio for more information. The Paintings for the Palette project will be due for critique on Nov 4th.

Week 6-7 Recap - Week 6 we critiqued our Ink blot project and began working on project#4 Egg/Portrait Pixel Value. Week 7 we continued working on this project and set a deadline for Thurs. Oct 14th. Please see the next post for the demonstration process of the project.

Week 7 we continued working on both projects and set a project #2 deadline for Wed Oct 13th. On Wed we also attended the Sue Lazon Egypt photography show and lecture.

FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 5

Week 5 Recap - On Tues we held a long pose for drawing the torso. Students were asked to focus on the 6 parts of light and to add the maximum amount of value in the drawing. On Thurs we continued our Anatomy Lectures with the Upper Leg. Break encouraged students to attend the international reception in the Library Lobby for DGV credit. After the break students were asked to make short gesture drawings of the legs. Tues will be Anatomy Lecture 3 the Lower Leg and students should bring in their homework of copying some structural anatomy studies.

Week 5 Recap - This week we held critique of projects 1-5 on Tues as well as watched a Shawn Barber video. Thurs we began the color box painting which will run through class on Sept 30. 3 different compositional Sketches of the still life will be due also on that date. A brief demonstration on glazing and velatura was given on Thurs as well. Students should in the next 3 weeks glaze and velatura a passage in their wet in wet and wipe out paintings.

Week 4 Recap - This week we looked at landmarks and proportion on Tues and began our anatomy lectures on Thurs with the Torso. Please remember to bring your sketchbooks each class, as we will make sketches in fig space or anatomy each class. This image is the torso lecture notes containing 12 muscles to know.

Week 4 Recap - This week students used both sessions to paint a still life with a limited earth palette. The colors used were black, white, alizarin crimson and raw sienna. All the colors can be used to set up a value based primary secondary palette system of colors commonly used by the old masters.

Week 3 Recap - This week we continued to work on plotting out figures in space. Thursday we also attended the Sean Usyk lecture/show. Homework on drawing shapes was given. 3 boxes, 3 spheres and 3 cylinders all with cross contour wrapping lines should be made in your sketchbook.

Week 3 Recap - This week we studied a Monochromatic painting style attempting to tonally infuse one of the two paintings with a warm or cool tint. The starting approach was left open to students (drawing, wipe out, or wet in wet). Next week we will begin a Limited Earth palette painting (black, white, alizarin crimson and raw sienna).

Week 3 Recap - Tuesday was another full lab of color mixing and matching. Thursday was a presentation assembly day, some projects were finished student should expect to submit the project at the beginning of class on Tues Sept 14th.

Week 2 Recap - Tuesday we held long poses for Foreshortened view drawings. Thursday we introduced the Figure in Space concept. Next week we will continue with the figure in space.

Week 2 Recap - Tuesday we began the Transparent Imprimatura painting please see the video for the process steps. Thursday we started the Wet in Wet technique painting, our focus was on blending. Homework was also given for the weekend. Students should draw three small 2"x2" compositional sketches of three simple still life objects. Box, Sphere and a Cylinder. These three objects should be rearranged into aesthetically pleasing compositions in each sketch. This homework will be due next week.

Week 2 Recap - Both Tues and Thurs we continued navigating color space by matching paint swatches with mixed acrylic paint. Tuesday brought the introduction of both the glaze and velatura technique. Students should plan to have the project ready and assembled for presentation at the end of class on Thurs Sept 9th.
