FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 5

This week students focused on creating spatial depth while placing figures in perspective. Students cycled through standing, seated and sitting on the ground poses to create a group narrative.

FA 209 Painting 1 Week 5

Students began work on the first side of the warm cool palette project. Using only black red oxide and white students will create two still lifes on one panel. One will have more black paint and be cooler, while the other will have more overall red oxide and be warmer. Next week students will continue to the second side of the piece. 


FA 106 Color Theory Week 5

The AM class started the color field theory by designing ink blots and double faces while the PM class finished working on the color match project. Color tests for the examples a-d are next before executing each example.
A - one color looking like 2
B - high intensity and low with compliment
C - color vibration
D - 2 different color look like the same

FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 4

This week foreshortened drawings culminated in a graded long pose on Thursday. Students also handed in homework 1. Next week we begin the figure in space.

FA 209 Painting 1 Week 4

This week students finished the wipe out paintings while beginning the wet in wet blending project. Demonstration for the wet blend was completed.

FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 3

. Tuesday we met at the Juergensen Art opening and then returned to focus on drawing figures with balance. Thursday students began a review of foreshortening principles. Homework #1 was given students will draw in their sketchbook 3 cubes, 3 spheres, and 3 cylinders. Each should have wrapping contour lines, like a wire mesh. Students will then create an invented form and show light on the form. Due Thursday sept 17.




FA 209 Painting 1 Week 3

On Tuesday students finished their Grisaille paintings while there was a wipe out demonstration made before attending the Coincidental Correspondance lecture. Thursday students began the Wipe Out project while demonstrations for both wipe out and wet in wet painting techniques were made. 






FA 106 Color Theory Week 3

This week students had lab time to finish up the color triad while transitioning to begin color matching. Remembering the key aspects of color Hue, Value, Intensity, Temperature to help match the color cards.

FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 1&2

Students spent Tuesday focusing on gesture and warming up to drawing the figure after the summer off. Thursday students had a refresher boot camp in proportion. On Tuesday the 8th of September we will meet at the Juergensen gallery in IT before returning to the figure room to finish proportion. 

FA 209 Painting 1 Weeks1&2

This week students began work on the Grisaille still life while reviewing chapter 1 from the Complete Oil Painter book by Gorst. Tuesday students will have some time to finish before attending the Coincidental Correspondance lecture and opening in the Juergensen Gallery. 




FA 106 Color Theory Week 2 - b

Monday and Tuesday students made color space exploration scales. Harmony, compliments, tints and shades all followed after warm and cool studies of the hue families. Wednesday and Thursday students began designing and painting the color triad, quad, pent or hex. We will work one more class period on the triads before switching to color matching.
