FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 16

Week 15 Recap - This week students continued working on the Final drawings this was a continuation from last Tues with Albrecht Durer's Melencolia I being the subject for the models pose. Next week will be the last final drawing and students will choose which of the 3 drawings to turn in for a final grade.

Week 15 Recap - This week students should have all the final 5 projects started.  Critique for the Palette project parts A, B and C, the Cast or Portrait project and the Final will be held on Thurs Dec 8th.

Week 15 Recap - Students this week focused on completing the Final Project.  Hopefully parts A and B are already done so that students can have fun creating and executing a design for part C the Interpretation of A (subject) and B (palette).  Critique will be held on Thurs Dec 8th.

Week 15 Recap - This week students again worked on final projects for the semester.  Sketchbook should by Wed the 7th have approximately 30 hours of drawing entries, and remember bonuses for those whom do extra work!  Growth, Research and the Final drawings will be up for critique also on Wednesday.

Week 14 Recap - This week we began Final #2 based on Durer's Melancholia 1. This will continue next week for both class periods with a third and final pose starting the final week of class.

Week 14 Recap - Students should be working now on both the Cast/Portrait and the Final pieces with two weeks left to go.  These plus the Palette project will be due for critique on Thurs Dec 8th.

Week 13 Recap - On Tues we continued with the Final #1 after attending the Cittadino Italian Painting lecture.  On Thurs we visited the Anatomy Lab to draw from various examples of muscle, bone and interior organs.  Brains!

Week 13 Recap - Students continued working on the Palette project, Portrait or Cast and the Final.  Demo was the start of the Geometric Self Portrait. On Tues the 22nd students should have a thumbnail and idea for the final piece.

Week 13 Recap - This week we worked on the Critter/Bot Tonal project with students evaluating each others projects on Thursday at the end of class.  Final project will begin next week, with the three components being A. Still Life, B. Master Palette Analysis, and C. Palette Interpretation.

Week 13 Recap - This week we continued working on the final projects. Monday each student went through a one on one evaluation of the current progress for each project, while on Wednesday student had Sketchbook check up #3.

Week 13 Recap - This week we worked on the Symbolic Surrealism (Ultimate) Project.  Critique will be on Monday the 21st.  Upon completion students should begin the Final Project.

FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 12

Final 1 - La Force
Week 12 Recap - Tues we worked on the 6 Parts of Light (HL, L 1/2 T, RL, CS, CA) and made a tonal pre-study before drawing.  Thursday we began our Final drawings #1 is instructors choice and the theme for the pose is La Force by A L Bayre.  We will continue the pose on Tues next week.

Portrait Demo Tues
Week 12 Recap - This week student began wrapping up their Palette project paintings.  Demos included a portrait demo on Tues and a Cast demo on Thurs. Students will be asked to make one of the two on 16"x20" canvas and start their final piece (any subject, any style, any palette) on 18"x24". All three projects (5 paintings) will be due on the last day of class Dec. 8th.

Week 12 Recap - This week students created their robot or critter and made a study on Tues while on Thurs we entered the computer lab to make our color shifts.  Students will now place their critter-bot in it's environment and repaint with the tonal shift.

Week 12 Recap - This week students continued working on the four remaining projects: Growth Drawing, Research Technique Drawing, Final and Sketchbook.  Students will be required to turn in the sketchbook for review next Wed. and it should have approx 24 entries.

Week 12 Recap - This week students submitted their Abstract Narrative pieces, and we planned the Ultimate Project.  Students as a group decided on what the parameters and rules for the project.  The decision was made to have any medium and any size with the theme of Symbolic Surrealism.

Week 11 Recap - This week we made two more Portrait drawings.  The second on Thursday being a Charcoal wipe-out drawing.  Next week we will focus on the 6 Parts of light and form rendering.

FA 209 Painting 1 Week 11

Week 11 Recap - This week students continued on the palette project, hopefully finishing painting 2 and starting painting 3.  Next week demonstrations of the portrait and cast painting will be done.  Students will be expected to have thumbnails and a rough sketch for the Final project (18"x24") on Tues Nov 22nd.  Five weeks remain, paint paint paint!

Week 11 Recap - This week student turned in the color ribbon project and began work on the Harmony Compliment design project.  Students should remember to use the different opposites Harmony vs. Compliment, Organic vs. Geometric, Growth size vs. Visual Chords. Finally the Robot/Critter project was introduced.

 Week 11 Recap - This week students turned in the Tattoo Symbol project and began work on the Abstract Narrative project.  Monday students turned in the Key for their stories.  Wednesday students in their groups held critique for the look of the groups projects together. Week 10 Recap - This week we focused on the Portrait and specifically the features of the face.  Eyes, nose, mouth and ears.  Video clips by Daniel Green "Portrait Drawing" and Bob Kato "Drawing the Male Head".  Next week more portraits.

Week 10 Recap - Monday we continued working on the Tattoo/Symbol Design project.  Students submitted their 10 thumbnail sketches by the end of class.  Wednesday we held critique for the project.  During the week the Abstract Narrative project was introduced and students formed groups to choose a story and make a plan for the Key and what scene each person in the group will make. On Monday the Key for the story will be due at the end of class.

Week 9 Recap - This week we focused on the Anatomy of the Hands and Feet.  With a lecture and some long pose drawings from the casts and model.  Next week we will look at the features of the face and the portrait.

Week 9 Recap - This week students began creating the Palette project paintings.  Students will choose from a selection of Styles (A la prima, Wet in Wet, Shellac, Abstraction, Pointalist or School {Dutch, Italian, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese}) 
Palettes (Mud, Full, Glaze, Grisaille, Old master) 
Subjects (Vanitas, Food, Candy, Plant, Bottles, Landscape, Portrait, or other theme from the COP text).  *Note : students will now only need to make 3 palette paintings for final critique.

Week 9 Recap - This week students finished turning in their pixel portraits/eggs and began the color ribbon project.  This project is meant to show light, color and space at the same time.  Students were given a Process for creation: 1. Thumbnail sketch  2. Design layout  3. Value shading and light source placement  4. Wash in of light and shadow local colors for 1 strip of color  5. Form value adjustments to create transitions  6. Final detail adjustments  7. Apply color scheme to other strips of ribbon.

Week 9 Recap - This week students were introduced to the collaboration research project.  Students will research an artists technique and give a short report on that style while creating either a solo or collaborative piece using that same style. The Growth drawing demonstration saw the addition of the Jabberwocky and a third sheet of paper.

Week 9 Recap - This week students received their midterm grades and began work on the Tattoo / Symbol Design project.  Students were asked to create 10 thumbnails, 3 roughs and a final piece mounted with a cover sheet for clean professional presentation.

Week 8 Recap - Having finished the anatomy lectures on the legs and arms, students made a multi-pose drawing of each.  Using a Shiva concept for basis drawings were focused on the arms.  Hands and Feet lecture on Tuesday.

Week 8 Recap - This week we held the Midterm Critique! Our grading focused on the projects 1-6: Grisaille, Wipe Out, Wet in Wet, Warm/Cool Tonal, Limited Earth and Color Box. Highlights from these paintings will be hung in the hallway display cases next week.  The Palette Project 2.0 will begin on Tuesday.

Week 8 Recap - With our shortened week students continued working on the pixel project with that being the final project added to the midterm grading. Introduction to the Color ribbon project was made.

FA 202 Intermediate Drawing Week 8

Week 8 Recap - This week we finished up our drawings and held our Midterm critique.  Students also submitted sketchbooks for grading which should equal out to 14hours of drawing to this point.  Next sketchbook check up will be on Nov 16th with a total of 24 entries at that point. Demo added the walrus and carpenter to the skull and a bit of the jabberwocky!

Week 8 Recap - This week we had a back to back schedule, holding class on Tues and Wed. Students turned in their Space project for grading and began working on the Big/Small project.  Using background and context students will attempt to make something big look small (tiny mammoth) and something small look big (big apple in NYC). Due Wed next week for critique.
