Week 14 Recap - This week we worked on prints for the Cabinet of Curiosities project. Students should have their prints ready for critique Monday. Two weeks of class remain till final critique of the Circus project on May 11th.

Week 13 Recap - This week we began the final drawing projects Final 1 Lab 1 with the theme of Vulcan at the Forge by Diego Velazquez and Final 2 Lab 1 with the theme of Echo and Narcissus by J W Waterhouse. Both poses will be repeated on Tuesday and Thursday of next week.

FA 218 Painting 2 Week 13

Week 13 Recap - This week students worked again on 345. While on Thursday we held an in-progress critique for half of the class. Demonstrations included continuation of student portraits and final painting. Two weeks to critique!

FA 106 Color Theory Week 13

Week 13 Recap - This week we worked both classes on our tonal critter/robot project. Demonstrations included a digital and traditional versions of Henry and Funbot.

FA 226 Printmaking Intaglio Week 13

Week 13 Recap - This week we worked on our Relief Print project. Students were treated to another stage two print demonstration for the color reduction process. Also students should be working on the final project with the theme: CIRCUS required paper size 8"x10".

SA 300 London Paris Week 12

Update Week 12 - Another week off, please make sure all classwork is done for presentation week April 27th. Students should have the French artist report and the Final Music assignment finished and ready to share.

FA 104 Figure Drawing 2 Week 12

Week 12 Recap - This weeks focus was on creating realistic drapery effects in a drawing. Tuesday we focused on the fold types and attended a Sculpture space lecture while viewing the Alumni Photo Exhibition. Thursday we held a long pose with drapery. Next week we begin the final drawings. Don't forget Homework due May 3rd 18"x24" anatomy study depicting a the body or any one of its systems.

Week 12 Recap - again both labs were dedicated to working on the final projects. In progress will be held next Thursday while students continue to finish works.

Week 12 Recap - this week we held lab time for the Critter/Robot project during both Tuesday and Thursday's classes. Critique next week.

Week 12 Recap - Monday was an introduction to Color Reduction Relief print process. Having over the weekend printed out my Cabinet of Curiosities demonstration print, we printed out stage 3 for a previous reduction print. We also voted and decided on a theme for the final project "Circus" and it should be on 8"x10" paper. Wednesday was continued carving of redux demo.

Week 11 Recap - Both classes this week we worked on the color harmony project. Creating to compositions: one organic based and one geometric. Choosing how to compose this picture students were asked to infuse either Fibonacci's number grown sequence or Alberti's visual chord concept. Exploration of these compositions should be done in thumbnails. Final pieces will be critiqued on Tuesday.

Week 11 Recap- Monday was an Aquatint lab day, as well as a linoleum relief carving demonstration. Wednesday we held critique for Project 3 Aquatint. Critique for Cabinet of Curiosities will be held in two weeks April 20th.

SA 300 London Paris Week 10


Week 10 Recap - Students gave their reports on English artists and we discussed some minor trip details. French artists were assigned for the final journal entry, while the Musical Final Project will be given on Wiggio.


Music Final Assignment:

Topic – Choose a song from an English or French artist. Then analyze the song in the following criteria:

v Who is the artist or group

v Summarize the song in your own words

v Discuss the themes of the song

v Discuss symbolism in the song

v What is the significance of the song is there a moral lesson?

v What is this song in reaction too

v Why is this song relevant to today’s society

v Does this song accurately represent today’s society

v Why you chose this particular artist

During the final two classes students will present your analysis to the class as a PowerPoint presentation. Please supply the class with copies of the lyrics and bring the song to class on an ipod.

You will also create an artistic expression based on your own personal interpretation of the song. This can be in any media as per the syllabus (video, needlepoint, drawing, collage, etc..)

Week 10 Recap - This week we worked on portrait drawings, Tues was live model portrait and Thurs was a cast based drawing. Next week we will make a charcoal wipeout portrait on Tues and visit the anatomy lab for drawing on Thurs.

FA 218 Painting 2 Week 10

Week 10 Recap - Continuing to work on the final projects students were treated to a demonstration of shellac glazing technique (x2) and a start of drawing for a narrative final solution. More to come next week.

Week 10 Recap - This week we finished up the color ribbon project and began working on Color Harmony. Which will be critiqued next Thurs.

Week 10 Recap - Monday was Project 4 Cabinet of Curiosities carving and printing relief demonstration. Wednesday was finalizing the aquatint demonstration of Mt. Olympus UT. Next week is set for Critique on Wed Apr 6th.
