Painting 1 Week 5

Week 5 Recap
Tuesday we started the wet into wet painting beginning with a white + earth tone. Then drawing back into this wet paint with a darker value. The main goal to create a full value study for glazing. Thursday we began working into this value base, scumbling light values and color in the light areas while glazing the shadows in the painting. We also discussed the concept of the velattura (a semi opaque mix of color + medium) as a means of changing color and value in your painting. Homework for week 5 is to make 3 thumbnail sketches of one subject, using cropping as your tool to zoom in and out of focus on this subject.

Figure Drawing 1 Week 5

Week 5 Recap - Tuesday we began shading exercises on the cast torsos. Stressing that spending extra time to block in the line for light and shadow is more important than shading. Thursday we continued this exercise while also discussing preparation of tools (pencils, charcoal, chamois, paper stumps and chalk)

Printmaking: Relief Week 5

Week 5 Recap - Monday we introduced project 3 multi-block print with the theme of GREEN. Students will need to use a substrate that is at least 50% post consumer used. Scavenging will be necessary to find these materials, possible items may include: newspaper, magazine, cardboard, wood, t shirts, etc. There is no limitations on what you can use, but the same image must be printed on each of the five works. We also set the schedule for critique of project 2 color reduction for October 14th. Wednesday we made sure to print the first color of the color reduction print, so drying can begin for the later colors.
