Figure Drawing 1 Week 1

Recap: Monday we reviewed the syllabus and introduced each other. Wednesday we began by practicing the technique of Gesture drawing. Trying best to capture the Story of each pose. Specific attention was given to blocking in the figure from head to toe and using the whole size of the paper. The 3 Major Masses (Head, Rib Cage and Pelvis) where also an important part of starting each gesture. We then started using ruled lines to help keep the correct proportions to the figure. Homework was to create two sheets with horizontal lines at 0, 2, 4, 6, 7 1/2, 9, 11, 13 and 15 inches.

Printmaking: Relief Week 1

Recap:
Monday we read through the syllabus and drew a dragon. We also reviewed some tools and the studio set up. Wednesday we discussed the dragon drawing, more in depth tool usage, and the relief printing process. I made a practice print from a linoleum plate (left) and discussed best studio practices for making a print. Students where then given the remainder of the class time to make a practice print and begin the design process for their own lino print based on the "Flora or Fauna" theme. At the close of class we discussed the basics of printing: Boarder, Ink Quality and Signature. All three will play a large part in the grading rubric for this project.

2D Design Week 1

Week 1 Course Recap:
FA 105 2D Design - Monday we reviewed the syllabus, drew a pig and ended early so students could purchase materials for the next class. Wednesday we discussed the pig drawing, the Elements of Composition and the Design/Creative Process. Then we began designing our Value/Saturation Scale compositions. Remember that these pieces should have 18 shapes representing 9 steps of value and 9 steps of saturation. My demonstration project has Hippo shapes for the saturation scale and Tree shapes for the value scale.
