Figure Drawing 2 Week 5
Painting 1 Week 5
Tuesday we started the wet into wet painting beginning with a white + earth tone. Then drawing back into this wet paint with a darker value. The main goal to create a full value study for glazing. Thursday we began working into this value base, scumbling light values and color in the light areas while glazing the shadows in the painting. We also discussed the concept of the velattura (a semi opaque mix of color + medium) as a means of changing color and value in your painting. Homework for week 5 is to make 3 thumbnail sketches of one subject, using cropping as your tool to zoom in and out of focus on this subject.

Figure Drawing 2 Week 2

This week we began working on foreshortened pose drawings. Starting with quicker poses and ending with three longer poses. One of these poses was turned in as a final foreshortened figure drawing.
Homework was given for copying a drawing from text pages 111,113 or 117 here is an example for copy work

Figure Drawing 1 Week 2

Week 2 Recap-
We used the 2" and 3" scales to draw multiple poses and focus on the vertical proportions of the figure. After much practice, we moved to sighting and blocking in a figure through a simpler process. We also tried some meditative line exercises. First a Line Economy exercise, which is the assignment for homework. Students should draw 7 total figures using lines in various amounts 1:3:7:13:7:3:1. Simple lines like the image here should be used.
Printmaking: Relief Week 2

This week we had lab time to make prints and carve our images. With no school Monday, Wed Sept 9th will be the best day to print in order to have dry prints for the 1st critique on Sept 14th. Project #2 was introduced with a theme of "Dual Self (Unconscious Personae)". Five Sketches should be done before starting the plate work for the Color Reduction Print.
2D Design Week 2

This week we reviewed the Design/Creative Process as well as our first critique of project #1 Value/Saturation Scale. Finally we introduced project #2 Color Wheel. This new project should have 12 shape areas, which will have the primary, secondary and tertiary colors. These are Y, YO, O, RO, R, RV, V, BV, B, BG, G, YG. Students should try their best to make these colors bright and well spaced between each color shift.
